Question 1

What identification do signers need?

Accepted Answer

Each signer generally needs a current, valid, government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, state ID or passport. If a signer does not have acceptable ID, please call before booking so we can explain what options North Carolina law may allow. We never ask for Social Security numbers.

Question 2

Do you come to assisted living, nursing homes and rehabilitation centers?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We regularly travel to assisted living, retirement and memory care communities, nursing homes and rehabilitation centers. Please let the facility know we are coming and tell us about visiting hours, parking or check-in procedures when you book.

Question 3

Can you notarize at a hospital?

Accepted Answer

Yes, subject to hospital policies and the signer’s condition. Please tell us the hospital, unit and room, and any visiting restrictions. The signer must be awake, aware and willing to sign, and we cannot guarantee a notarization in advance.

Question 4

How much does it cost?

Accepted Answer

We don’t publish a price list because every appointment is different. Request a quote, call us, or ask Maxwell to start a quote request — applicable notarial and travel fees are disclosed and agreed before your appointment is confirmed, in accordance with North Carolina law.

Question 5

What does a loan signing appointment include?

Accepted Answer

As a notary, our role is to verify signers’ identity, present the documents for signature and complete the notarial acts. Your lender, title company, settlement agent or attorney is responsible for the loan terms and documents — please direct questions about the loan itself to them.

Question 6

Can you notarize a power of attorney?

Accepted Answer

Yes — we can notarize a power of attorney that you or your attorney have prepared, as long as the signer appears in person with proper ID and signs willingly and with understanding. We cannot draft the document or advise which form to use.

Question 7

Do you provide witnesses?

Accepted Answer

Some documents, such as certain estate planning documents, may require witnesses in addition to a notary. Please check your document’s requirements with your attorney, and tell us when booking — witness availability must be arranged in advance and is not guaranteed.

Question 8

Can the notary decide whether my loved one is competent to sign?

Accepted Answer

No. A notary does not make medical or legal determinations about capacity. We verify identity and observe that the signer appears to be acting willingly and with awareness at the time of signing. If we have concerns, we may decline to notarize.

Question 9

Do you give legal advice or prepare documents?

Accepted Answer

No. Grateful Notary Services LLC does not provide legal advice or legal document preparation. For questions about which document you need or how to complete it, please consult a licensed North Carolina attorney.

Question 10

Do you offer remote online notarization or serve South Carolina?

Accepted Answer

No. We provide in-person mobile notarization in North Carolina only. We do not perform notarizations in South Carolina and do not currently offer remote online notarization.

Question 11

Is my appointment confirmed when I submit the form?

Accepted Answer

Not yet. Submitting the form or chatting with Maxwell creates a pending request. Your appointment is confirmed only after our team contacts you by phone or email.

Clear answers, before you book.
